Broomhill draw against promotion-pushing Glenavy
By William Newell
Broomhill 2, Glenavy 2
AN action-packed first half dominated by the home side, left Broomhill 2 nil up against the promotion-pushing Glenavy on Saturday.
The visitors who feature high in the league tables, were no doubt hoping for a win, but in the end had to be content to share the spoils with the determined Broomhill.
They were 1 nil down after 15 minutes when a good run by David Taylor was met by Ian Mulholland and he landed Broomhill into a fully deserved lead.
They were further chances to increase the lead and Johnny Forde was denied when his shot ended up in the side netting. Broomhill were 2 in front when Ian Mulholland’s cross was turned towards goal by Johnny Forde only to be saved by the goalkeeper, but Ryan Harper was on hand to slot home the rebound.
During the early stages of the second half Broomhill were still in control but Glenavy increasingly made their presence felt and eventually reduced the deficit from a deflection.
Ryan Harper almost gave Broomhill a 3 – 1 lead when he skimmed past the post, but before long however the visitors were level from a corner.
The home side continued to battle hard right to the end of the game but at final whistle a draw was a fair reflection of play. Best for Broomhill were Connor Kenny and Andrew Young.
